The days to cover
The FCPS 2026-27 calendar marks every weekday from Monday, December 21, 2026 through Friday, January 1, 2027 as winter break. Monday, January 4, 2027 is a no-class day for students, and they go back on Tuesday, January 5, 2027. That is 11 weekdays without school.
Lexington Children's Museum: three camps
The museum at 440 West Short Street has three camps posted for kindergarten through 5th grade. So Cold Camp runs December 21 to 23, 2026, Explosions Camp runs December 28 to 30, 2026, and Sound Camp is Monday, January 4, 2027. Camp runs 9 am to 5 pm with pick-up from 4 to 5 pm, and early drop-off from 8:30 to 9 am is $10 a day. The registration pages list prices from $10 to $65 without saying what the $65 covers, so check the ticket options before you pay. Kids bring two snacks, a lunch and drinks, all nut free. The museum does not post a registration deadline, and it takes camp scholarship applications.

- Explosions Camp registration, December 28 to 30
- Sound Camp registration, January 4

Living Arts & Science Center: one class on January 4
LASC at 362 North Martin Luther King Boulevard has one winter break class posted: Antarctica Adventures on Monday, January 4, 2027, for kindergarten through 5th grade. It costs $70 for members and $80 for everyone else. The registration form lists 9 am to 4 pm, but the event listing shows 9 to 10 am, so confirm pick-up when you sign up. LASC's homepage lists a holiday closure from December 22 through January 1 but does not print a year, so check before planning a drop-in visit. The day after the last school day before break, Saturday, December 19, 2026, is the free Discovery Saturday, Winter Wonderlab, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Lexington Public Library: two Northside programs
The library's calendar lists two winter break programs at the Northside Branch, 1733 Russell Cave Road. DIY Snow Globes is Monday, December 21, 2026 from 11 am to noon, and Robot Party, with Cubelets and Ozobots, is Tuesday, December 29, 2026 from 2:30 to 4 pm. Both are listed for kids 8 to 13, and registration is recommended. The listings do not mention a cost. Baby, toddler and preschool storytimes continue at several branches on the open weekdays. Every library location is closed December 24 and 25, 2026, closes at 5 pm on December 31, 2026 and is closed January 1, 2027.
YMCA of Central Kentucky: School's Day Out
The Y runs School's Day Out, full-day care on school holidays and longer breaks, at the North Lexington Family YMCA, 381 West Loudon Avenue, and the Whitaker Family YMCA, 2681 Old Rosebud Road. It is for kids now in kindergarten through 5th grade, runs 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and costs $40 per child per day for members and non-members. Pre-registration is required and spots go first come, first served. The program page does not say which winter break days are offered, so check the Y's registration listing for December 2026 dates. Kids bring a towel, a swimsuit and a nut-free sack lunch and drink that does not need a fridge.
Lexington Parks and Recreation: ESP full days
The city's Extended School Program lists winter break full days on December 28, 29 and 30, 2026 and January 4, 2027, and says those dates are subject to change. Full days run 7:30 am to 5:30 pm at limited locations and are only for students already enrolled in ESP. They cost extra, the page does not give the amount, and sign-up details go to enrolled families by email with a deadline. Campers bring a packed lunch, a water bottle, comfortable shoes and a coat. Parks and Recreation's camps page lists summer camps only, with no separate winter break camp posted.
Kentucky Horse Park: open break weekends, no winter camp
The Horse Park's Youth Riding Camp is a summer program for ages 8 to 14, and no winter camp is posted. For a break outing, the park's winter season begins November 13, 2026, with hours Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, and it closes Christmas Eve and Day and New Year's Eve and Day. By those posted rules, the open days during break are December 26 and 27, 2026 and January 2 and 3, 2027. Those are daytime park hours. Southern Lights, the evening drive-through, runs separately; see its listing below for dates. Admission is $10 for ages 5 to 17, free for 4 and under and $20 for adults. The daily schedule includes a Mini Stall-Side Chat at the Kids Barn at 1:15 pm. The park is at 4089 Iron Works Parkway.
Date needs confirmation. The foundation's 2026 event information and Dates/Time FAQ say November 27, but Plan Your Visit on the same page says November 28. The opening date remains unresolved. Treat this guide’s event suggestion as unconfirmed until the organizer and seller agree.

The UK Art Museum, inside the Singletary Center at 405 Rose Street, has no family program posted for winter break. Admission is free. On weekends you can park free behind the museum or in any UK E lot; on weekdays there is metered parking in the Singletary Center circle off Rose Street (45 minutes max) and the Student Center lot (two hours max). Its info page gives 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday through Friday and noon to 5 pm on Saturday. The same page both includes and excludes Tuesdays, so treat Tuesday as unconfirmed. The museum also closes on University holidays without listing which break days those are, so call 859-257-5716 before you go.
Explore University of Kentucky Art MuseumGyms and studios: nothing posted yet
The Little Gym of Lexington East, 3101 Richmond Road, Suite 309, runs camps for ages 3 to 10, but its camp calendar showed no camps for December 2026 when we checked. Lexington Children's Theatre, 418 West Short Street, had no winter break session on its theatre school pages. Both are worth another look in November.
