Southern Lights' last night

December 31 is the last night of Southern Lights at the Kentucky Horse Park, open from 5:30 to 10 pm at $35 a carload. Buy ahead online or pay at the gate.

Date needs confirmation. The foundation's 2026 event information and Dates/Time FAQ say November 27, but Plan Your Visit on the same page says November 28. The opening date remains unresolved. Treat this guide’s event suggestion as unconfirmed until the organizer and seller agree.

The night before: the Bolo Mules

The Bolo Mules, a ten-piece 90s country band, play Manchester Music Hall on Wednesday, December 30, with doors at 7 pm and the show at 8 pm.

The big venues have not posted December 31 yet

Central Bank Center's event listings for Rupp Arena and the Lexington Opera House end the year with UK men's basketball against Gardner-Webb on Monday, December 28, and list nothing on December 31. The Lyric Theatre's calendar and The Burl's ticket listings have nothing that night either, and Manchester Music Hall's last December show is on the 30th. We will add New Year's Eve events as organizers post them.

What closes early, and New Year's Day

Library branches close at 5 pm on December 31 and stay closed on January 1. Fayette Mall lists 10 am to 6 pm on both days. The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. City government offices are closed on Friday, January 1, and city waste collection for that day is picked up early, on Wednesday, December 30.

Lextran on New Year's Day

Lextran had not posted its New Year's Day 2027 service when we checked on October 27. Check its holiday service alerts in late December.

As of 2025: On New Year's Day 2026, Lextran ran a Sunday schedule, several routes that usually run on Thursdays did not run, and its customer service and offices were closed.
