Buy tickets ahead on the museum's booking page; its visit page says special events tend to sell out early, and seats aboard are first come, first served. Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure, the museum suggests arriving 45 minutes early for special events, and parking in Woodford County Park is free. Trains run rain or shine; the cars are heated, but the museum suggests dressing in layers.

The museum's booking page lists departures from its station in Woodford County Park, 175 Beasley Road in Versailles, at 11 am and 2 pm on Saturdays November 28, December 5 and December 12, and at 2 pm on Sundays December 6 and 13, 2026. Each ride lasts about 90 minutes, west through farm country to the Kentucky River palisades and back, with no stop to get off in winter weather. The museum says Santa, with Frosty, the Grinch and some elves, makes his way through the train so each child can give a Christmas list and have photos taken; passengers sing carols, and everyone gets hot chocolate and a candy cane back at the station. Coach seats, in antique coaches with vinyl bench seats and propane heaters, are $20 for ages 12 and up and $18 for ages 2 to 11. First class, in reclining seats, is $25 and $23.
