Feeds and calendar subscriptions

Take the calendar with you.

Every checked event on Around Lex is available as a calendar subscription and as a news feed. Subscribe once and your calendar app keeps the list current on its own, so new dates, cancellations and corrections reach you without another visit.

Calendar subscriptions

Copy an address into your calendar app, or use the subscribe link on a device with Apple Calendar or Outlook installed.

Feeds by category

The events page filters work the same way. Add category, area or free=1 to the all-events address, for example https://aroundlex.com/events.ics?area=Downtown&free=1 for free events in Downtown.

Each place has its own feed. Add .ics to the end of a place page address, for example https://aroundlex.com/places/gatton-park.ics for Gatton Park.

Each neighborhood page has one too, for example https://aroundlex.com/near/downtown.ics for Downtown. So does each recurring group.

To follow one event, add .ics to the end of its page address, for example https://aroundlex.com/events/shaker-village-illuminated-evenings-2026.ics for Shaker Village Illuminated Evenings. It carries every listed date of that event.

Apple Calendar

On an iPhone or iPad, tap a subscribe link above and confirm. You can also open Settings, choose Calendar (under Apps on newer versions), then Accounts, Add Account, Other and Add Subscribed Calendar, and paste the address.

On a Mac, open Calendar, choose File, then New Calendar Subscription, paste the address and click Subscribe. Set Auto-refresh to every hour or every day so changes arrive on their own.

Google Calendar

Google adds subscriptions from a computer rather than the phone app. Open calendar.google.com, find Other calendars, choose the plus sign, then From URL, paste the address and choose Add calendar. Google checks subscribed calendars on its own schedule, so a change can take several hours to appear.

Outlook

In Outlook on the web, choose Add calendar, then Subscribe from web, paste the address, give it a name and choose Import. The new Outlook apps for Windows and Mac use the same Add calendar step, and the subscription stays with your account.

Feed readers

Prefer a reader? The Atom feed at https://aroundlex.com/feed.xml and the JSON Feed at https://aroundlex.com/feed.json carry the next 50 upcoming events with a summary, details, listed dates, the place and the official source link. An entry updates when we recheck the event.

Openings have their own RSS feed: https://aroundlex.com/guides/new-in-lexington/feed.xml follows the New in Lexington list of businesses that opened, are coming soon or closed, each with its own page and when we last checked it.

What the feeds include

Only events we have checked against an official source. A timed event needs a confirmed start and finish to enter the events, weekend, free, category, place and neighborhood calendars, so a date whose finish time is still unconfirmed stays on the site and in the news feeds but is left out of those calendars until the organizer confirms it. The calendars for one event, a recurring group, the big dates and just added keep those dates instead: a date with only a start time has no end, and a date with no times marks the day, and each entry says so. We never invent a finish time. All-day listings appear as all-day entries. A cancelled or postponed date stays in calendar subscriptions, marked Cancelled or Postponed, until the date passes, so your calendar shows the change instead of losing the entry. The news feeds drop it, and the event page keeps the notice. An event with an unresolved date question waits until the question is settled.

This is a growing selection, not every event in town. Our side refreshes at least every 12 hours; your app decides how often it checks. Subscriptions are read-only and never add attendees, alarms or invitations. The Add to calendar file for a single date on an event page is different: it is a one-time copy with a reminder the day before, and it does not update.
